Jazz and wine are the main passions of Dutch jazzsinger Joyce Stevens. The founder of the jazzband ‘Mijne Heeren’ now combines the two in an ingenious musical project: ‘Jazz and Wine’. Together with Tico Pierhagen (piano) en Pieter Althuis (contrabase) she brings her own music in a performance, while her public can have a taste of five really excellent wines.‘Jazz and Wine’ plays in different theatres and on some exclusive locations.
The heavenly combination of her passions made her want to write this program, says Joyce. “I think jazz and wine have important similarities. Enjoying wine and enjoying jazz are both intense ‘in the moment’ experiences. The way wine tastes nów, is unique. The way I hear live jazz playing this very moment, is once in a lifetime. This experience will never be the same again, even if all the ingredients of that very moment stay the same. The musicians can play the same songs, but will sound different because they partly improvise. The grapes in wine can be the same grapes, but the process of producing will always slightly differ. So I say: enjoy the moment with everything you got, otherwise this experience will disappear as a vague memory. Therefore, ‘Jazz and Wine’ is just the right little show for music lovers that like to live life to the fullest.”
